TDLR Updates: Electricians, Cosmetology/Barbers, HVAC
Electricians
At their meeting held January 30, 2008, the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation adopted amendments to §73.80 regarding the electricians program application and contractor fees. The amendment to §73.80 reduces the application and renewal fees for master electricians and master sign electricians from $65 to $50; journeyman electricians and journeyman sign electricians from $40 to $35; and electrical contractors from $125 to $115.
The rule adoption was filed with the Texas Register on April 24, 2008, and will be published in the May 9, 2008, issue of the Texas Register.
The effective date of the rule adoption is May 15, 2008.

Cosmetology
The Dual Barber Shop / Cosmetology Salon License application is now on the TDLR website. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) is now accepting applications for Air Conditioning Technicians. You can apply online by going to https://www.license.state.tx.us/App_Online/default.asp?LicenseType=ACR
The law states that any person who assists a licensed air conditioning and refrigeration contractor in performing air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance work must register. If you are working as an Air Conditioning Technician, you need to register with TDLR and you can do so today by applying online.
The only requirements for registering are submitting a completed application online and paying the required $20 fee.
All Air Conditioning Technicians have until June 30, 2008 to register.
If you choose to add a certification to your registration, you may do so but that is not required by law. A certification may be added for an additional fee of $15. You may be eligible for certification if you have passed any of the following exams:
NATE (North American Technician Excellence) RSES CM and CMS Refrigeration Service Engineers Society HVAC EXCELLENCE ICC- International Code Council
IAPMO- International Association Plumbing and Mechanical Officials UA - Star HVAC Certification TSTC, HVAC Everest Institute, HVAC
