NEW 2006-07 State Base Salary Schedule

6/2/06 - Just Released!  Your school district must pay you (classroom teachers, full-time librarians, full-time counselors, or full-time nurses) at least the state based salary for your years of teaching experience.  Click here to view state base salary schedule for 2006-2007:  View Article   .  Remember, Trade & Industrial teachers (or other CTE teachers that are required to have industry/occupational work experience in the area they are teaching) may jump two years forward on the salary schedule.  This is legislation that TIVA got passed in 1982.  For more information click here:  http://www.tea.state.tx.us/school.finance/salary/

5/4/06:   The U.S. Department of Education released guidelines for the new Academic Competitiveness Grants and National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grants.  These new grants were a part of the “Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005” which was included in the Deficit Reduction Act signed into law in February.  They are designed to encourage students to take more challenging courses in high school and to pursue college degrees in areas of high demand in the global economy.

Academic Competitiveness Grants will be awarded to first- and second-year college students who have successfully completed a rigorous secondary school program.  Students receiving these grants will be eligible for an additional $750 the first year and $1,300 the second year.  SMART grants, up to $4,000 per year, will be awarded to third- and fourth-year college students who major in mathematics, science, technology, engineering, or critical foreign languages.  The grants will be available beginning in July for students enrolling in college for the 2006-07 academic year.
