The State Board of Education will be meeting in Austin on January 12-15, 2010 for second reading and final vote on CTE issues - particularly the changes to the graduation requirements and courses aligned for the 4th year or math or 4th year of science, as well as a Fine Arts credit for Floral Design.  Note that a CTE Speech course, Professional Communications, is up for adoption.  Also, the option to use a CTE 2-3 hour work-based course for the PE credit is proposed to be eliminated.  If your campus takes advantage of this "substitution", ask your administration to submit a letter proposing local control of this option.

Here are documents posted on the Texas Register showing the proposed changes:

CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS

19 TAC §§74.51 - 74.54
19 TAC §§74.61 - 74.64

You may submit written comments  to rules@tea.state.tx.us by Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, 5:00pm or sooner if possible.

Focus on the benefits to the students!

These CTE issues will be heard on Thursday, January 14.  Click here to read the SBOE agenda .
