CONTEXTUAL LEARNING IN CTE
Saturday, January 17 & Sunday, January 18, 2009
Must be Pre-Registered and Pre-Paid for Conference
Workshop Fee = $275.00 per person
Limited Space Available for this Workshop

In a revolutionary approach, an academic and a CTE teacher teamed up to design a rigorous geometry mathematics course taught through relevant project-based application and curriculum. Standardized test scores have been raised with 100% of the students scoring as proficient or advanced on standardized tests, closing the achievement gap. Contextualized activities in the Geometry in Construction class have significantly raised the enthusiasm of teachers, students, fellow staff and the community. Students commit to the requirements of the course, including numerous hours of after school and weekend time, inherently learning workplace skills such as planning and teamwork. Attendance rates have increased while discipline incidents have decreased. In fact, the teachers in Loveland, Colorado do not want to be left out and have requested help from Burke and Moore to design project based curriculum for their courses.

You are asked to bring a math teacher with you to this workshop. CTE teacher must be registered for conference to register for this workshop. Math teacher may attend just this workshop for workshop fee.

Binder and resource materials furnished.

SkillsUSA CHAPTER ADVISOR TRAINING
Sunday, January 18, 2009
Must be Pre-Registered and Pre-Paid for Conference
CMI Basic: One-day Seminar
Workshop Fee = $30.00

This seven-hour workshop provides new instructors with the tools they need to develop, manage and advise a SkillsUSA chapter in their school and classroom. Participants explore the mission of SkillsUSA; learn to use the multitude of resources available and engage in hands-on activities. The training utilizes interactive sessions and provides answers to questions such as: How do I get students involved? What is the best way to organize our activities? What does a chapter set out to do? What is a Program of Work? What materials are available to help students? This is a must for beginning or novice advisors wanting to start a chapter or better manage an existing chapter.
