What CTE Courses Can You Teach?

Written public testimony is now being accepted by the Texas Register regarding the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) proposed rules amendments to 19 TAC  Part 7. State Board for Educator Certification, Chapter 231. Assignment of...

Public School Personnel.  Click on this link to access the SBEC proposed amendments (19 TAC 231.1).

The "Attached Graphic" chart (link to chart) on the above link is organized by career clusters.  You will see a listing of courses on the right-hand side of the chart and corresponding teacher certifications on the left side for that group of courses.  Look for the career cluster your course falls in, find your CTE teacher certificate--then on the left-hand side you will see what courses you can teach.  It will also show you what other teacher certificates are eligible to teach those courses.

This is a result of the recent revisions to the CTE TEKS,  course offerings, and CTE courses that satisfy the fourth math or science credit.  The State Board of Education (SBOE) approved the TEKS for CTE and they will be implemented this fall 2010-11.  New SBOE approved Graduation Requirements will also go into effect in the 2010-11 school year.  (Note: this chart of graduation requirements does not include the recently passed PE waiver for CTE 2-3 hr work-based courses.)
