CTE TEKS Modules 1, 2 and 3 Update
5/20/10:
The TEA CTE team has had a number of inquiries about the foundational modules for CTE TEKS training (English language proficiency standards, college and career readiness standards, etc.), commonly called modules 1, 2, and 3.
The three most common questions are:
1. Must a teacher complete modules 1, 2, and 3 before completing the cluster-specific training (commonly called modules 4 and 5)?
2. When and where will teachers get the training in modules 1, 2, and 3?
3. What if I teach classes in different clusters? Do I have to take training in each cluster?
Answer to Question 1: No, teachers do not have to complete training in modules 1, 2, and 3 before completing training in the cluster-specific modules (modules 4 and 5). The TEA CTE team encourages as many teachers as possible to take the cluster-specific training prior to teaching the new courses this fall.
Answer toQuestion 2: Modules 1, 2, and 3 are scheduled for deployment on Project Share (http://tea.epsilen.com/Public/Home.aspx), the new online platform TEA is making available to teachers. Teachers must have a username and password for Project Share and to access the training, once deployed.
TEA plans to provide teachers with their username and password, along with use training instructions this summer. The TEA CTE team will upload the CTE TEKS module 1, 2, and 3 training when we are able to do so.
Answer toQuestion 3: No, a teacher does not have to take the cluster-specific training in all clusters in which s/he teaches – though s/he may take training in multiple clusters. If teaching in more than one cluster, a teacher can transfer the skills acquired in training for one cluster and learn additional clusters using those skills. A teacher may want to train in the cluster in which s/he teaches the most classes, if possible.
Modules 4 and 5
Implementation for these modules will be offered by career clusters at various venues, including TIVA and other CTE professional association conferences.
