9/28/10: This morning ACTE Executive Director Jan Bray was interviewed about CTE by co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford on The Today Show. Jan Bray emphasized how CTE provides students with the academic and technical skills that students need for any career. She also referenced how parents have a misperception of CTE and how it has changed.
Along with Jan Bray, a student named Adrianna Benjamin discussed her involvement in CTE in a maritime program at Urban Assembly New York Harbor School. Adrianna talked about her passion for scuba diving and how her CTE program inspired her to learn more about the ocean and its impact in our lives. The Today Show included a short segment that highlighted students at Southern Westchester BOCES in New York. The segment showcased students in a variety of professions and how CTE provides them with the skills and knowledge needed for their future careers. The two students interviewed in the piece talked about their college plans to enhance their skills and pursue their future career.
The interview provided a good opportunity to raise awareness about CTE nationwide And was part of NBC’s “Education Nation” summit series that is focused on putting education back on the national agenda.
